What is the best degree to combine with law?

The answer to this question depends on what you want to do! If you want to work with marine animals and protect them then you probably should have a marine biology degree to combine with your law degree. That isn’t to say you can’t protect marine wildlife without one. The most important degree to have is your law degree. It opens up tons of doors and opportunities you would not have otherwise had.

However, if you don’t already have an undergraduate degree, there are two particular types of degrees that you might want to consider as the best degree to combine with law.

The two degrees that can truly boost you job prospects when combined with a law degree are: accounting or engineering.

These degrees open you up to becoming either a tax lawyer or a patent lawyer. Both of these types of lawyers are highly sought after and well-paid. You will likely have an easier time find a job if you are a qualified tax lawyer or patent lawyer. In fact, we don’t know of a single classmate that had either an accounting degree or an engineering degree and failed to find a high-paying job right after law school.

The reason for this is because these are specialized professions. Not everyone can become a tax lawyer or a patent lawyer. You need specialized knowledge that you can gain from your undergraduate degree or a special licensing exam. For this reason, not everyone is qualified to do these jobs and there is much less competition in hiring.
