If you don’t know anyone that has been to law school, you may think law school is stuffy and boring. However, despite what you may have seen or heard, you can party in law school. In fact, law students party quite often throughout their three years in law school.
Can you party in law school?
Yes, it just depends on the individual law student. For some law students, law school is relatively easy and they don’t have to study as much. For other law students it is more difficult and they need to spend more time studying. However, pretty much all law students party at some point or another.
Are there parties in law school even at T-14?
Yes, even the really smart kids in law school (top 15%) party. This is true across lots of law schools as well. Once you go to your Big Law internship with a group of law students from the best schools all across the country gathered at one firm for a summer, then you will really see that partying is universal.
The only difference perhaps is that law students are a little smarter about when they party. Law students have an ability to wait until after big deadlines like exams, interviews, etc. to party. But, once they’ve reached whatever milestone they were preparing for, you can be sure they are going to celebrate.
What is a law school party like?
Law school parties are like most other undergraduate college parties except that people are usually a little more responsible. It is very typical for law students to gather with their classmates and play drinking games, listen to music, and eventually go out to local bars. Law students are also huge fans of holiday and theme parties. As a law student you can be assured that Halloween and holiday parties will be times of great celebration.
Drinking games are common among law students and you definitely find yourself playing some beer pong, king’s cup, and flip cup during your law school career.
What is Barrister’s Ball?
The Barrister’s Ball is an annual event held at law schools near the end of the school year. It is usually a formal or semi-formal event where law students dress up and bring dates. The law school student bar association will typically host the Barrister’s Ball at an external event with a bar, DJ, dancing, and food. This is an event that law students look forward to each year. Many law students consider this one of the biggest law school parties of the year.
What to remember for law school parties?
Like any party, law school parties can get out of hand. It is important to remember not to get too wild or over consume alcohol. Getting too drunk at a law school party and then going out in public can be bad because you may get in trouble with the law. You do not want to explain on your bar application to become a lawyer that you were publicly intoxicated and got a ticket after a law school party.
Additionally, law students can make bad decisions at law school parties. With all the alcohol, their inhibitions go out the window and they start to say embarrassing things to their classmates. Perhaps they even end up having a one night stand with someone they now have to sit in the same room with for the whole semester. Talk about a major distraction from your legal education!
However, law students that can keep their composure and not over consume alcohol will find that law school parties are a great way to relive stress. Law school parties even serve as a great motivator for all the hard wok and studying.
Work hard, play hard!
